BEER FROM THE WOOD IS AVAILABLE
We have been advised that Ye Olde Mitre, 1 Ely Court, Hatton Garden, EC1N 6SJ are serving three, Three Kings Brewery, North Shields beers from wooden barrels. Whilst stocks last!
The Evening Star in Brighton served two beers direct from wooden barrels Sunday 30th May 2021. Beak Oopla 10% Coffee and Vanilla Imperial Stout and Dark Star ‘Critical Mass’. They also had Tosta, a pop up kitchen selling Portuguese toasted cheese sandwiches for the day.
There have been BfTW on the 1st and 2nd Mondays of the month at ‘Ye Olde Mitre’, 1 Ely Court, Hatton Garden, EC1N 6SJ, coinciding with regular Campden Hill Branch and NEC meetings. This is on hold thanks to the virus, lockdowns etc. Will hopefully return to business as usual when the pub reopens.
There have been BfTW on the last Mondays of the month at the Blyth Hill Tavern, 319 Stanstead Road, Forest Hill, SE23 1JB, coinciding with regular Cobra Cow meetings. This is served from a pin kindly bought by Con for the pub. Will hopefully be business as usual when pub reopens.
First Beer from the Wood Launch – Saturday 31st October 2020 – Evening Star, 55/56 Surrey Street, Brighton, BN1 3PB. One beer served from pin recently bought by the manager.
Beer from the Wood festival – Thursday 10th – 13th September 2020 – The Lord Harrowby, Grantham, Lincolnshire. 8 -10 bftw were expected to be served, but the landlord, John Senior, had difficulties with some breweries supplying at the time.
Summerfest 2020 – Thursday 27th – Monday 31st August 2020 – Royal British Legion, Marlow. I unfortunately don’t remember or noted what bftw they had, but they were excellent as usual, probably why I don’t remember. Attended by several local SPBW members plus those from London and other parts of the country.
Redemption Fellowship from the Wood – Wednesday 4th March 2020 – Was served from 6pm at the ‘Harp’, 47 Chandos Place, London, WC2.
Three Sods Smoked Brown Ale from the Wood – Wednesday 19th February 2020 – Was served from 6pm at the ‘Harp’, 47 Chandos Place, London, WC2.
Manchester Beer and Cider Festival = Wednesday 22nd-Saturday 25th January 2020 – Manchester Central Complex. The Wood Bar served 73 real ales and sold out by 4pm on the Saturday. A fantastic success. A few SPBW members manned the bar and the SPBW stand. Some others came as customers. A great time was had by all.
SPBW London pub of year 2019 presentation – Monday 13th January 2020 – Ye Olde Mitre, 1 Ely Court, Hatton Garden, EC1. The award was presented to Judith and her staff. Bftw were Windsor and Eton Mandarin and Seattle Porter. The event was very well attended and a good time was had by everyone.
56th Anniversary Event – Sunday 8th December – Ye Olde Mitre, 1 Ely Court, Hatton Garden, EC1 6SJ. Our regular celebration of the founding of SPBW. We had the whole pub to ourselves. There was Isabella Brown from Park brewery both in metal and from the wood. Judith produced a high-quality buffet with carvery food and was much enjoyed. More then 20 people attended this.
Winterfest 2019 – Thursday 12th – Sunday 15th December 2019 – Royal British Legion, Marlow. Club President John Wilkinson and Bar Manager Andy Shephard, both SPBW stalwarts, ran another very successful festival. The following Bftw included Chiltern Brewery 300’s Old Ale 4.9% and Festive Foxtrot 3..9% (Xmas Special), Leighton Buzzard Brewery Bedfordshire Best 4.1%, Stardust Brewery Spiced Slow Roast 4.6% and Animal (XT Brewery) Rook 4.6%. All were very good.

56th Anniversary Event – Sunday 8th December 2019 – Ye Olde Mitre, 1 Ely Court, Hatton Garden, EC1. It was attended by over 20 people who enjoyed the food and a bftw from Park Brewery.
Five Points London Porter from the Wood – Wednesday 4th December 2019 – Was served from 6PM at the ‘Harp’, 47 Chandos Place, London WC2.
Pig and Porter Green Hop Dubbel Percy Percy from the Wood – Wednesday 13th November 2019 – Was served from 6PM at the ‘Harp’, 47 Chandos Place, London WC2.
42nd Norwich Beer and Cider Festival – Monday 21st – Saturday 26th October 2019 – The Halls, Norwich, NR3 1AU. Had 37 Beers from the Wood in St. Andrew’s Hall.
Calderdale Beer and Cider Festival – Thursday 26th – Saturday 28th September 2019 – Viaduct Theatre, D Mill, Dean Clough, Halifax, HA3 5AX. Had 19 Beers from the Wood.
Signature Brewery Nightliner Coffee Porter from the Wood – Wednesday 25th September 2019 – Was served from 4pm at the ‘Harp’, 47 Chandos Place, Covent Garden, WC2. It sold out within 2 hours.
Cannock Chase Beer and Cider Festival – Thursday 19th – Saturday 21st September 2019 – Prince of Wales Theatre, Church Street, Cannock WS11 1DE. Had 4 Beers From The Wood.
Beer Festival – Saturday 24th August 2019 – Royal British Legion, Marlow. The club is situated next door to the Marlow terminus of the Maidenhead to Marlow branch line. Doors are open at 11. There was some beer from the wood available including from Chiltern Brewery.
East London Brewery Quadrant Oatmeal Stout from the Wood – Wednesday 7th August 2019 – From 5PM at the ‘Harp’, 47 Chandos Place, London WC2.
Three Kings Brewery Shieldsman from the wood – Wednesday 24th July 2019 – From 4PM at the ‘Harp’ 47 Chandos Place, London WC2.
