Event | Bill English Memorial Day |
Date/Time | Saturday July 6th |
Venue | Sheffield |
Details | In true Bill style we will start with a Wetherspoon’s breakfast at 11am in the Bankers Draft, 1-3 Market Place, Sheffield City Centre, S1 2GH. If downstairs is busy, there is more room to eat upstairs. Follow the signs to the tram at the rear of Sheffield station, (keep to the right out of the station, do not cross the tracks), it is just two stops to the Castle Square stop which is right outside the grade II listed ex Midlands Bank pub. I am aiming to visit 7 other pubs, all with exteriors or interiors of historic interest, all without too much walking, as we will be using the tram to go further afield and save our legs. A day ticket is currently £4.50, bought from the conductor, but if you are lucky enough to have an English bus pass, travel is free of charge, just don’t forget your pass! We will be leaving the Bankers Draft at 12 noon, if anyone is delayed the second pub is the Dog and Partridge, 56, Trippet Lane, S1 4EL. Continue on the tram another 2 stops after Castle Square, to City Hall stop. Turn left as you leave the tram, cross the road and go down Holly Street. Turn left on Trippet Lane and the pub is on the other side of the road a little further down on the corner of Bailey Street. We will finish in the Sheffield Tap, another gem of a pub, (with on site brewery) right next to the station, arriving around 7.15pm for a last drink before people leave to catch their trains home. |
Contact | If you have any questions please contact me, Lynn Atack. An idea of how many are hoping to attend would be good, but not essential, and I’m sure a good day will be had by all, I hope to see you there, Lynn Atack. |

SPBW Derby Day
As part of our Anniversary celebrations, there will be an outing to Derby on
Saturday 8 July. Meet at the Brunswick, Railway Terrace between 12 and 1pm.
Then we’ll move on to a selection of the excellent pubs in this city renowned for its
beer selection. Derby is easy to get to from various parts of the country so we hope
to see plenty of our members – all are welcome. For more details, please contact
Roger (editor@spbw.beer).
The day out is also in honour of the late Bill English who loved the city and its pubs;
it has been a custom for some of his friends to emulate his consumption of two full
English breakfasts before drinking commences. Be assured, this is not compulsory!
